Blake Griffin is a man of many talents. As we learned earlier this week, in addition to being able to jump over a Kia to dunk a basketball, Griffin can also own the stage and kill a crowd as a stand-up comedian. In every realm, Griffin is an entertainer. Now, he’s getting an animated comedy loosely based on his life.

Griffin will be the executive producer of the new pilot for Fox, according to Deadline. The show will be called Okies of Bel Air, in the vein of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The Beverly Hillbillies. Griffin was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Okla., before going to college at Oklahoma and later moving out to Los Angeles.

Deadline has more on the details of the new show: “the story of a family of humble Oklahoma catfish farmers who, after their basketball prodigy son is chosen first overall in the NBA draft, pack up and move to the tony enclave of Bel Air, where they’ll struggle to preserve their down-home sensibilities amidst a vast cultural wasteland where Kardashian reigns supreme and pressed juice is considered a viable alternative to childhood vaccinations.”

Sounds like a tale familiar to Griffin, the No. 1 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, doesn’t it? Although, from what we can tell, Griffin’s parents were teachers, not catfish farmers.

Deadline says Griffin may voice the project if his NBA schedule allows it, which seems like a necessity, right? We need more from Blake than just creative input; get this guy front and center. Comedian Sean O’Connor of The Late Late Show is writing the show.

This promises to be interesting. While no date has been announced for the show’s debut, we’ll keep you posted as this project becomes a reality.
