The hot takes over Colin Kaepernick's decision to sit for the national anthem just keep rolling in.
The latest one comes from Kaepernick's former San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. "I acknowledge his right to do it," Harbaugh told reporters during a press conference earlier Mondau. "But I don't respect the motivation or the action."
Later, the Michigan Wolverines coach tried clarifying his message with this statement on his Twitter account:
This "method of action" appears to be a popular stance among those who oppose what Kaepernick did. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees also spoke out on Monday, arguing Kaep was "disrespectful to the American flag."
PerSporting News:
"I disagree. I wholeheartedly disagree," Brees told reporters Monday. "Not that he wants to speak out about a very important issue. No, he can speak out about a very important issue. But there's plenty of other ways that you can do that in a peaceful manner that doesn't involve being disrespectful to the American flag."
It's kind of ironic that people are taking issue with Kaepernick disrespecting the American flag when he originally took this stance because he felt as though black people and other people of color were being oppressed by the country that the flag represents. Sometimes, though, drastic times call for drastic measures. When protests, sit-ins, rallies, and marches don't appear to be effectively getting the message across, how do you take to the next level? It looks like Kaepernick has found the way. Now where do we go from here?
