Most people laughed when Johnny Manziel said he planned to get "completely sober" on July 1 so that he could attempt to make an NFL comeback. But to his credit, Manziel has more or less managed to stay out of the limelight over the course of the last month. Does that mean that he's sober? Uh, no. As recently as Tuesday, Page Six published a report about how he has allegedly "hit rock bottom." There was also this report about Manziel fighting a guy at a wedding in Hawaii. But at the very least, Manziel hasn't been popping up on TMZ Sports every single day, which is a (small!) improvement for him, and that Page Six report also quoted an anonymous "pal" of his who said Manziel "really wants to turn things around and make people proud of him again." So that's kind of encouraging if you're a Manziel fan. Er, right?

What’s not encouraging is what Jerry Jones’ son Stephen Jones, the Cowboys executive vice president, just said. Manziel has expressed an interest in possibly trying to play for the Cowboys this season, and the Cowboys are a team that could really use a backup quarterback right now. Their backup Kellen Moore broke his ankle during training camp and will likely miss the entire 2016-17 NFL season. But despite this, Stephen Jones appeared on CBS Radio’s Tiki and Tierney Show on Friday and said there’s "no chance" the Cowboys will consider signing Manziel anytime soon.

"Obviously, Johnny needs to get his hands around his life," he said. "He needs to do the things that make him a good person off the field, I think, before he can ever have any chance of being successful in our league. He’s a guy obviously from Texas that we’ve all followed and had an amazing career there at [Texas] A&M. Unfortunately, he has some things that are holding him back not only as a football player, but as a person in life. I hope he is able to get his hands around his life, and at some point if he does, I’m sure he’ll get another chance. But at the moment, it certainly won’t be in Dallas."

So there you have it. No more Manziel rumors in Da You can listen to Stephen Jones’ interview here:
