If the NBA decided one day to replace human referees with technology, don't expect to hear a complaint out of Steph Curry. “I would love that,” Curry admitted, during a Q&A at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco last week.
Shortly after his confession, the Golden State Warriors star point guard jokingly referenced the incident in Game 6 of the 2015 NBA Finals where he chucked his mouthpiece into the crowd, nailing Andrew Forbes, son of Cleveland Cavaliers minority owner Nate Forbes, on the shoulder. “I would have to throw my mouthpiece at those new inventions.”
Curry also spoke with TechCrunch senior writer Jordan Crook about his latest investment, Slyce, a company he founded with Davidson teammate and roommate Bryant Barr.
“[Barr is] one of my best friends, teammate, roommate from Davidson. We met back in 2005, and had at a great time at Davidson. He left after he graduated to go to Nike, and I, obviously, came out here to play basketball. We started brainstorming the idea about two years ago to kind of leverage off my social media presence, and the ways that athletes interact with their fans, and brands, and sponsors off the court. We started brainstorming ideas and came up with a way to control the content that we have, as influencers, and our relationship with brands to make it as smooth as possible. So, it’s a platform to be able to distribute the content in a very efficient way.”
