A University of Memphis football player had his car shot up earlier this week, just hours after getting into a physical altercation with a teammate. There has been no indication yet that the incidents are connected, but police are investigating the shooting to see who may have been involved in it.

As first reported by the Commerical Appeal, Memphis wide receiver Jae’Lon Oglesby had his car shot up on the same day that he got into a fight with defensive back Kam Prewitt. Oglesby told police he heard gunfire outside his apartment at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, and when he went outside, he found that someone had opened fire on his car:

Five shell casings were found near the vehicle by police, and there were bullet holes in two windows and a passenger side door. A stray bullet was also fired into a nearby apartment. Additionally, officers found a blue New Balance shoe near the scene. Oglesby didn't witness who shot his car, but he did tell police that he had been involved in a fight with Prewitt on the Memphis campus earlier that day. Both players received indefinite suspensions following their altercation.

The suspension actually marks the second such punishment of the season for Prewitt, who was also suspended by Memphis head coach Mike Norvell during the team's fall camp for a reason that was not disclosed. When asked about what took place on Tuesday, Norvell said, "I will make no further comments on this matter while it remains under investigation."

As a redshirt freshman, Prewitt was yet to see any action on the football field this season. Meanwhile, Oglesby, who is a sophomore, had recorded five catches for 46 yards during limited playing time.
