The Tennessee-Georgia SEC East showdown on Saturday and its final play ranks as probably the best of the college football season thus far.

The No. 12 Volunteers (5-0) came into the unranked-Bulldogs' (3-2) homefield at Sanford Stadium in Athens, and the Bulldogs trampled over the Vols defense throughout most of the game. The Vols were the heavy favorite, and you can see that during the second quarter in the way their running back Jalen Hurd caught this pass for a tou... Oh wait, Hurd got his clock cleaned as he pranced towards the end zone, causing a fumble and a touchback for Georgia.

The Vols were down by 17 points at halftime. But the Vols kept the faith going into the fourth quarter. With 2:56 remaining in regulation, the Vols sacked Georgia QB Jacob Eason that caused a fumble and touchdown that initiated by star defensive end Derek Barnett, and gave the Vols a 28-24 lead over the Dawgs.

But Georgia's Eason pushed his team on an awesome 81-yard drive down the field in just four plays in that final series. Georgia scored a touchdown that put them up 31-28 with ten seconds left on the game clock.

The W seemed to be in the bag for the Dawgs, but this is college football where miracles happen. And not just once tonight for the Vols, but twice.

Tennessee safety Evan Berry caught a kickoff return that got the team to the 48-yard line. After a five-yard penalty for celebration for the previous touchdown and an offsides call on the kickoff by Georgia, the Vols had one last shot. Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs heaved 43-yard Hail Mary prayer, only to be pulled down by his teammate Jauan Jennings in the end zone as time expired.

Game over, 34-31! The Vols escape the upset and remain the top team in the SEC East.
