An NBA season is a marathon, not a sprint. But that hasn't stopped some analysts, fans, and of course, people on Twitter from overreacting to the slow starts that several NBA teams have gotten off to this season. Most teams have played less than five percent of their schedules, but already, entire fan bases are up in arms about what has transpired thus far.
The Knicks are one of the teams that has underperformed through the first week of the season. Despite the fact that a ton of people placed bets on them to win the title this season—and despite the fact that one of their new players Derrick Rose labeled them a "superteam" in the offseason—the Knicks are just 1-3 on the year and haven't looked that good on either side of the ball. It may have been the reason Knicks star Carmelo Anthony decided to post this 77-word message to his Instagram account on Thursday:
At first glance, Melo's words might sound like a message directed at critics of the Knicks, and it might scare Knicks fans who were expecting more than just a rehash of the last few seasons this year. But in reality, the words are actually the words of motivational speaker Les Brown, and they appeared at the end of Jeezy's 2015 song, "Just Win," off his album Church in These Streets, which is why Melo says he posted them. And when he was asked about the IG post on Friday, Melo said that people shouldn't overthink the words or dig too deep into what they might mean:
It's worth noting that, while Jeezy did just release an album, the album that those particular words appeared on was released almost a year ago.
You can read into that what you will, but if you're a Knicks fan, you should probably worry more about your team being 1-3 and less about what Carmelo is posting on IG. And even then, we're only four games into the season, so don't freak out.
