A Pittsburgh man was found dead at his home on Monday morning, just hours after he allegedly got into an altercation with a Cowboys fan following the Dallas/Pittsburgh game at Heinz Field on Sunday afternoon. According to police, William Laughlin, 44, suffered an injury to his head as he was leaving the stadium after he was reportedly punched by the Cowboys fan.
WPXI.com is reporting that the fight occurred on one of the ramps inside of Heinz Field. During the altercation, Laughlin was reportedly knocked unconscious, but according to reports, he did not need immediate medical attention. In fact, Laughlin reportedly went out for drinks following the fight before returning to his home later that night. However, Laughlin didn't wake up on Monday morning, and he was declared dead a short time later. Laughlin's neighbors, who spoke with WPXI.com, were surprised to hear about the alleged fight and said that Laughlin, his wife, and their three children mainly kept to themselves.
The Cowboys fan has not yet been identified, but investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the stadium. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Major Crimes Unit is handling the investigation.
Jim Sacco, the vice president of stadium operations for Heinz Field, released a statement about the altercation late Monday:
Heinz Field Management has become aware that the City of Pittsburgh Police are investigating the death of a fan who attended the game at Heinz Field on Sunday. Regrettably, the individual fan apparently died at home last evening.
