Chris Paul on the Idea of Him Playing With LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony: 'Anything’s Possible'

Chris Paul said "anything’s possible" when he was asked about the idea of him playing alongside LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony one day.

During an interview with Bleacher Report back in March, LeBron James revealed that, before he retires, he wants to spend at least one season playing alongside Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Paul. "I really hope that, before our career is over, we can all play together," he said. "At least one, maybe one or two seasons—me, Melo, D-Wade, CP—we can get a year in. I would actually take a pay cut to do that…It would be pretty cool. I’ve definitely had thoughts about it. We’ll see."

That was before LeBron and the Cavaliers won a title, though, so there’s a chance he has changed his mind with regards to playing alongside D-Wade, Carmelo, and CP3. He would probably still be down to do it, but LeBron is also focused on winning more rings with the Cavs right now. So the idea of playing with his friends is likely the furthest thing from his mind.

But that doesn’t mean the idea is dead. In fact, during a recent interview on the Open Run podcast, CP3 was asked about it, and he said there’s still a chance it could happen. Wade is probably out of the picture because of his current contract situation, but LeBron, Carmelo, and CP3 could still join forces. "Anything’s possible," Paul said. "Definitely, anything’s possible."

Paul added: "We’ll work out together and stuff like that sometimes. The last time [we played together] was 2008, some time around the Olympics. D-Wade was coming off his injury. He hit us up and said, 'I need to see what it’s like to play for real.' We all met in Chicago. I’ll never forget that. We went to a gym in Chicago and we played pickup with some other guys just to give him some of that real feel, what it was like. Then, I don’t know if you remember, at the 2008 Olympics, [Wade] went off. That’s what you do for your real friends and your real brothers."

Paul also said that, while he would be open to playing with his "brothers," he would have to think long and hard about leaving the Los Angeles area before he actually did it. "You think about the feel," he said. "Obviously, basketball is a huge part of it. I even think about with that trade that brought me here to L.A. That whole process opened my eyes…There were a few places, I just didn’t want to live there. Believe it or not, my wife actually has input in this decision. Seriously, there’s a conversation we have about our kids. Basketball is a huge part of it, but it’s also about the way of life and how it’s going to be for my kids."

We’re still skeptical about the whole LeBron/Wade/Carmelo/CP3 superteam dream. It just feels like there are too many moving parts to make it come together. But who knows? At the very least, the "brotherhood" isn’t ready to do away with the idea just yet.
