Leave it to Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith to try and make the best of a bad situation.

On Monday, Smith and the Ravens lost to the Patriots 30-23 in what will likely end up being the final Monday Night Football game of Smith’s NFL career. Smith caught just four passes for 57 yards and appeared to be frustrated at his lack of targets after making a catch in the fourth quarter:

And while the Ravens did overcome a massive 23-3 deficit and make the game 23-20 at one point in the fourth quarter, Tom Brady and New England were eventually able to pull away from Baltimore and put their playoff hopes on life support. The Ravens will probably now have to win the rest of their games during the regular season if they want to have a chance to make it to the postseason.

But after the game, Smith still mustered up enough energy to smile for reporters and to come up with some pretty ridiculous analogies to explain the way that he was feeling. He started things off with a Bambi reference that was just…what?

"I’m just trying to stay positive," he said. "A great philosopher said one time—Thumper’s mom in Bambi—'If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.' I’m trying to do that."

Smith then moved on to comparing the Ravens’ loss to the Patriots to a bad sandwich. "I was not happy with the loss," he said. "Are we happy with the battle back? It’s like getting a terrible sandwich. You bite into it, still terrible, but you give the person who made the sandwich kudos. It was a good attempt. It was a terrible sandwich."

And he finished his interview off by saying that the Ravens’ loss was a little bit like…fish sticks. Wait, fish sticks?! "I was hoping we would play this game and also beat them," he said. "Icing on the cake, and we got fish sticks. It was a terrible dinner. Garbage."

Well then. Why don’t you tell us how you really feel Smith? Enjoy this guy—and his bizarre analogies—while you still can.
