The 76ers earned what may go down as their most exciting victory of the entire 2016-17 NBA season on Wednesday night when they beat the Knicks 98-97 on a buzzer beater from T.J. McConnell.
The Sixers actually trailed by as many as 17 points during the game and were down by 10 with less than three minutes to go, so the Sixers players were obviously ecstatic after McConnell hit his game-winner. And no one was happier than Joel Embiid. The frontrunner for the NBA Rookie of the Year award scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds during the game, despite suffering a minor ankle injury, and when it ended, he went wild. He yelled in McConnell’s face:
He ran all over the place on the court. And at one point, he even showed off a few of his favorite dance moves with the Sixers cheerleaders, just to really rub the win in:
It actually feels a little bit weird to see a Sixers player celebrating this hard, doesn’t it? But at the same time, we can’t really blame Embiid for enjoying every second of the win. Yes, it came against the Knicks, and yes, you could argue that, despite the victory, the Sixers played a pretty really bad game on Wednesday night. But this is a franchise that hasn’t had much success in recent seasons, so let’s cut them some slack.
Oh, and also: JOEL EMBIID #NBAVOTE. Did we do that right?
