It’s been quite a five-year journey for Johnny Manziel. It’s hard to believe how quickly it’s all happened.

At this time in 2012, Texas A&M had just lost starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill, and pretty much none of us had heard of his eventual successor—Manziel, a 5-foot-11 kid from Kerrville, Texas.

Manziel’s ups and downs in the half-decade that have followed have been well documented. He won the Heisman Trophy, got picked in the first round by the Cleveland Browns, was named the starter, showed some glimpses of promise, and eventually got cut—with who-knows-how-many character-related issues and punishments popping up along the way.

Since his playing career came to an abrupt end after the 2015 season, Manziel has repeatedly promised to get his act together. He’s still making that promise during his frequent posts on social media.

Sunday, he took some time to reflect on his wild five-year journey, posting the following photo with renowned quarterback coach George Whitfield. The two appear to be working together again, per Manziel’s caption.

Manziel narrated the highs of his career at A&M and being drafted, and also briefly touched on the lows that have followed.

“Then it all changed and I lost my ways, the grind, the love, the hustle, my way of life in general,” Manziel wrote.

So, what could be next after his repeated falls from grace? Manziel appears to be training with Whitfield for a return to the NFL. He concluded with a look ahead to the future.

“All I have is today and we'll take this thing a day at a time for as long as it takes,” Manziel wrote. “You made it happen and I'm ALL IN cuzzin, because I know you always have been."

Good news for Johnny: he may have an option other than the NFL.
