Kyle Lowry may rep the city of Toronto as a member of the Raptors, but he’s a Philadelphia guy at heart. He was born and raised in the City of Brotherly Love, attended Villanova to play college ball, and still has a home in Philly that he lives in during the offseason. And unfortunately, that home is currently part of an investigation into a multi-million dollar jewelry theft ring that reportedly operated out of the city.

According to CBS Philadelphia, Lowry’s home was targeted and burglarized by a group of thieves who had ties to a jewelry shop called V Jewelers that is located in what is known as "Jewelers Row" in Philly.  Police believe the store served as a front for the group, who specialized in breaking into homes in the area and stealing pricey jewelry from people before bringing it to the shop to melt it down to create new jewelry or to sell it as is. The owner of the shop, identified as Wasim Shazad, and four alleged burglars were arrested in 2016 in connection with the ring.

It’s unclear how much jewelry the group was able to steal from Lowry, but CBS Philly reports that one home was hit for more than $600,000 worth of jewelry. Another was taken for more than $500,000 worth of jewelry, and several other homeowners reported between $200,000 and $300,000 worth of jewelry missing from their houses after break-ins. Police have yet to release an official tally of exactly how much jewelry was stolen by the burglary ring, but they believe that at least several million dollars worth of jewelry was taken. At least 15 burglaries have been tied to the investigation into the operation.

Lowry is yet to release a statement regarding the role that his home played in the alleged crimes. But it’s worth pointing out that he’s not the first pro athlete to run into a situation like this in Philly. Back in 2014, then-Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson was also the victim of a break-in that resulted in about $250,000 worth of items being taken from his home.
