The Bears gave up a lot to move up only one pick, from No. 3 to No. 2, in Thursday night’s NFL draft. In addition to the third overall pick, they gave the 49ers a third-rounder, a fourth-rounder, and a 2018 third-rounder.

But the lot that they gave up wasn’t even the biggest surprise stemming from the transaction. With the No. 2 pick, Chicago picked North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Most experts didn’t even have Trubisky going in the top 10, so seeing him go second overall was...surprising, to say the least.

Trubisky might want to delete this tweet...

Hell yeah, Go Packers

Trubisky started for one season at North Carolina and threw for 3,748 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions. The Tar Heels finished 8-5.

The move was made more surprising because the Bears just signed free agent quarterback Mike Glennon to a three-year deal.

Twitter reacted with mostly shock and confusion.

I just don't see what the Bears saw in Mitchell Trubisky, and they just traded up and bet their next five years on him. Unreal.
The Bears gave Mike Glennon $18M guaranteed and a month and a half later used 3 picks to move up 1 slot to take Mitch Trubisky.

The 49ers took Stanford defensive end Solomon Thomas with the third pick. Clemson signal-caller DeShaun Watson is expected to be the next quarterback to be selected. Patrick Mahomes of Texas Tech may also go in the first round.
