Chris Paul May Have Thrown Shade at State of Utah While Discussing Clippers' Game 6 Win

Chris Paul spoke to the media following the Clippers' win in Game 6 of their playoff series, and he threw some shade at the state of Utah.

The Clippers had every reason to come out swinging in Friday's do-or-die Game 6 against the Utah Jazz. If you ask Chris Paul, part of the team's motivation stems from a desire to give forward Paul Pierce a proper send-off.

Faced with the prospect of their season ending in Salt Lake City, CP3 claims the Clippers were in the huddle during a timeout and decided they couldn't let Pierce's illustrious career end in Jazz territory.

"I looked over at Truth during one of them timeouts," Paul recalled, "I said, 'You're not ending your career in Utah.'"

Watch the video up top and judge for yourself; though it's not outright slander of Utah, it sounds like Paul is taking a jab at the state.

At least one member of the Clippers recognized it as shade. Look at DeAndre Jordan's face as Paul is saying this:

Fans of the great state of Utah did not appear to take kindly to Paul's shade, and Clippers haters of all kinds made sure to let him know the end of Pierce's career was no less inevitable:

Though the bright lights of Los Angeles (and a home crowd) might seem like a better setting for Pierce to end his career, the location of his final game doesn't seem too important. Even if Paul was just trying to rally the troops during tense moments at the end of Game 6, he might have been better off keeping this amongst teammates and off Utah's bulletin board.

Paul is still the best player in the series, and teams fight for home court in the regular season for moments like these. But if he and the rest of the Clippers come up short in the decisive seventh game, don't expect Jazz fans to let him forget this.
