Just hours after Aaron Hernandez died in April following an apparent suicide, both his former agent and his lawyer released statements indicating that they didn’t believe the ex-Patriots tight end took his own life. And while an official report revealed that Hernandez did die as a result of suicide, Hernandez’s family is still skeptical about the circumstances surrounding his death.

On Monday, Hernandez’s fiancée Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez appeared on Dr. Phil and talked about how she doesn’t believe he committed suicide. She had been with Hernandez since high school, and she told Dr. Phil that she has serious doubts about the suicide story because of what she knows about him.

"It’s just not the Aaron that I know," she said. "I think that if he would have done something like this, it would have been at his worst, and I felt like it was looking so bright. I don’t think it was a suicide."

Jenkins-Hernandez also told Dr. Phil that Hernandez was in a good place following his acquittal on double murder charges. "That would make me doubt that he took his own life," she said. "He was very positive, so excited to come home. I spoke to him the night before they say this incident happened, and he was so, 'Daddy’s going to be home,' and he’s speaking to [his 4-year-old daughter] Avielle, 'I can’t wait to sleep in the bed with you guys, and I can’t wait to just hold you and love you.' There was no indication at all of such events."

Additionally, Jenkins-Hernandez remembered her final conversation with Hernandez and said that it was pretty unmemorable. "It was a normal conversation, which makes me doubt so many things," she said. "I just know that the feedback I was getting from our last talk had nothing to do with any suicidal thoughts. But then again, I don’t know what that would be. But to me, it was completely normal."

As previously reported, Jenkins-Hernandez also talked to Dr. Phil about how she thought someone was playing a cruel joke on her when they called and said Hernandez was dead. You can check out a portion of her interview with Dr. Phil in the clip above. Jenkins-Hernandez will be back on Dr. Phil on Tuesday to talk more about her life with Hernandez.
