After a year of what appeared to be a severely fractured relationship between Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, it looks like they are back on good terms. In his interview with ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on the Woj Pod podcast, Paul George, the newest addition to the Oklahoma City Thunder, provided some insight on the current state of Westbrook and Durant. "Whatever went between him and Russ that's their business," he said, per the Oklahoman. "It's not my point to want to know or want to figure out what happened. It's pointless. They are buddies, they are back good again. I'm here to build something different and something special."
Following Durant's announcement that he was going to leave the Thunder and sign with the Golden State Warriors last July, his former OKC teammate Westbrook was reportedly upset that KD didn't call to tell him personally about the decision. As tensions between these two persisted throughout the ensuing couple months, an alley-oop from Durant to Westbrook at this year's NBA All-Star Game may have been the moment that turned the tide.
Another former Thunder teammate Kendrick Perkins revealed that, in early April, Durant reached out to Westbrook and had a "nice conversation" following the game where The Broadie broke Oscar Robertson’s single-season triple-double record. Perkins said the two were "back on talking terms." Durant extended another congratulatory message to Westbrook after he winning league MVP.
With an MVP trophy, a new superstar teammate in George, and his two-month-old child Noah, Westbrook may not feel the need to harbor these feelings towards Durant anymore. These two went their separate ways. Now it's time to start looking forward.
