Style photography is more accessible to the masses today than ever in history. We are all better for it, documenting what is in front of us, an extension of ourselves. People are free to express themselves visually, exchanging information about what we wear, how we wear it, and how we perceive clothing and style in different contexts.

Sports photographers have long had to push the boundaries of image creation, developing creative tools to capture more in frame than what is plainly visible to the naked eye. For a sports performance brand like Oakley, developing new technology at the intersection of sport and lifestyle is a natural innovation that sits between the brand’s two worlds. This summer, Oakley teamed up with VSCO, arguably the most established photo editing app out there, to launch three custom preset settings that mimic Oakley’s leading Prizm lens technology.

The collection of presets is designed to enhance details often missed, revealing elements in a photo you may not have realized were there at all, like an Oakley favorite goggle with Prizm lenses does for an athlete mid-during training or competition. The Sport setting enhances yellows and greens, which can illuminate cracks in asphalt just as readily as details on a jacket. The Snow lens provides much-needed contrast for the downhill racer or photographer fighting against white out, while the preset can be used to do the same in any setting, perhaps a dark figure on a dark street under low light. The effects of the Tungsten setting will be familiar to many fashion plates, as the warmth of color vibrates through the screen.

The naked human eye, in all its glory, does not capture the full spectrum of light waves shooting around on earth. Humans, however, have always had the capacity to dream beyond what was plainly in front of them, to make tools to reflect the world as they imagined it, not just as they see it today. To help illustrate the concept behind the partnership, Oakley tapped three VSCO photographers, Nathalia Allen, Alex Strohl, and Tiffany Tu to bring a collection of images to life. Check them out below, and create your own using the Oakley Prizm presets available on VSCO on iOS and Android today. Visit oakley.com to learn more about Prizm Lens Technology.
