Things got a little heated this week during a pro-am basketball game in South Central, Los Angeles. The tension was born out of some questionable officiating and if the ref wasn’t clear of that notion, he certainly would be by the end of the matchup. It all went down in the Drew League, which is a summer tournament that has been running in California since 1973.

The Drew has proven to be a great off-season alternative for elite basketball players and hosts a mixture of NBA stars, streetballers, and college hoopers. This year’s edition happens to feature Toronto Raptors star, DeMar DeRozan, who was at the centre of this week’s controversy.

A pair of questionable charges were pinned on the Raps guard in the dying minutes of the game, and the violations made DeRozan noticeably heated. It was a technical foul late in the game that eventually became the last straw for the 2K18 cover star, who decided to let out some pent up frustration on the gymnasium walls. DeMar chucked the ball near the referee, who dodged the bullet and juked away from the projectile. An unlucky bystander was grazed by the ball, and for his recklessness, DeRozan was thrown out of the game altogether.

Swaggy P himself, Nick Young, also happened to be on DeRozan’s squad and sided with his teammate despite the obvious misstep. Both players were seen yelling at the ref after the buzzer rang and play ended. You can watch the whole incident below around the 11 minute mark.
