Earlier this week, we asked you all to vote for who you think will be the Man of Next Year in Art & Design between BJ Betts, Jonathan LeVine, Kahlil Joseph, Patrick Martinez, and Retna. And after tallying up the votes, the people have spoken.

The Man of Next Year in Art & Design is Patrick Martinez.

Martinez's earliest jobs found him art directing Concentrated Entertainment and providing album covers for the underground stalwart Stones Throw. After completing his BA in Fine Art at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, he began to blend his hip-hop roots with a unique approach to tackling social issues, leading to a unique blend of neon (both symbol and wordplay) and painted portrait—including for the cover of Stalley's Savage Journey to the American Dream.

In the last year, Martinez's hustle has expanded and his gallery shows in Dallas at Circuit12 Contemporary and in L.A.Lovely Day at Known Gallery was a game changer—met with rave reviews. Expect nothing less in 2013.
