It seems high fashion publications just don't get it: blackface isn't cool. The latest publication to print this highly-questionable aesthetic is Vogue Netherlands, which placed models in black face paint to display the inspiration of African-American icons Josephine Baker and Grace Jones had on Marc Jacobs' fall 2008 and and spring 2009 collections.
Text from the shoot reads, “This collection is inspired by the style of the Parisian showgirl Josephine Baker, mixed with tribal influences.” Of course, because nothing screams "tribal" like white models who minstrelize African-Americans, right?
