Christian Chaize has created an amazing book that highlights images most people gloss over. The photographer was interested in an expanse of coastline in southern Portugal and he began photographing a single stretch of beach multiple times a year. Time and Tide: Photographs from Praia Piquinia documents the wonderful landscapes he captured in his endeavor.

The work has an unexpected magic; umbrellas, towels, and other beach items have a new life in the series with their colors juxtaposed with the sand of the beach. The images of the ocean and the rocky terrain are captivating. Also, Chaize shows a broader meaning about beaches. The images show families, couples, a variety of races and ages, people of varying body types, all engaging in different activities of their choosing. Beaches are revealed as places that build community with no prejudice or judgement.
