Designers Create Attractive Typographic Signs for the Homeless

These signs can't be ignored.

The homeless usually communicate their needs through cardboard panels and markers, which is not the most effective way to attract help. In an attempt to offer something meaningful to those living in poverty, Boston-based artists Kenji Nakayama and Christopher Hope have teamed up to create hand-painted "Signs for the Homeless".

The duo interviewed and photographed a number of homeless people on the streets of Boston, replacing their dull, haggard signs with colorful illustrations that convey the same message. Each interviewed person was also given 10 US dollars along with an improved way of communicating their cause. The project attempts to raise awareness about the current state of poverty and encourages others to follow suit in offering a helping hand to the homeless.
