Last week, Banksy revealed a collaboration with Os Gemeos in the form of two pieces hung under the High Line, complete with an armed guard. The NYPost reported that the artist and his camp spent $50,000 to rent the space (and pay the guard), but ANIMAL investigated and found that to be completely false.
According to Alf Naman, the owner of the lot, the space was given to Banksy free of charge after his representatives spoke to Naman over the phone. The only stipulations were that Banksy provide his own insurance and security, so unless that security guard made a year's salary in a couple days, someone made up the bogus dollar amount. "I don't know where they got their information," confirmed Naman. Maybe the NYPost will reveal their source now that the truth is out.
