Collagist Mark Wagner is the newest subject of The Avant/Garde Diaries video series. In the beautifully shot clip (watch it above) the artist is shown in the process of deconstructing the main material he uses in his intricate constructions: dollar bills.
“Sometimes, I stop thinking about it as a dollar bill. I just think about it as material. I have to remind myself sometimes that it’s worth money. I have to remind myself what it means to people,” Wagner says over ominous strings, as the camera pans over X-acto knives and strips of green-tinted paper, almost unrecognizable in their constituent parts.
