Last we heard from Patrick Martinez, he was showing us around his new Los Angeles studio. Now he’s delivered on the promise of a one-day installation in the El Tapatio Market in Bell Gardens, California. As Martinez often takes inspiration from the artifacts of consumer culture and bodegas, the installation blended in a seamless yet fascinating way with the products in the store. Showing signature neon pieces, a few paintings, and a cake featuring a portrait of Tupac, it was a beautiful event, as regular shoppers in the market interacted with the work whether they wanted to or not. Check out some images above.
Martinez will next show in a traditional gallery setting with a show called "Buy Now Cry Later," at the Public Functionary in Minnesota this month.
