This past week, Daniel Arshampremiered his film project entitled Future Relic 01 at Art Basel Miami Beach. The film was created in collaboration with Swizz Beatz and fashion designer Richard Chai, with Ben Louis Nicholas as the director of photography. The short-film has no dialogue, only the cosmic soundtrack composed by Swizz Beatz and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma

In an interview with Nowness, Arsham said that he drew inspiration from Lawrence of Arabia, a 1962 film directed by David Lean that went on to win seven Academy Awards and four Golden Globes, including awards for "Best Cinematography" and "Best Art Direction-Set Direction." When asked why he chose film as a medium, Arsham responded: "This notion of time-based art, something that creates a kind of arc, is a very different process from creating a static object in the form of a sculpture or a painting. Film is something that I love, but is definitely the sort of medium that requires collaboration. There are 20 or 30 people who worked on this film—it’s not like a painting that I can make myself. So it was really about waiting for the perfect moment, and finding the right collaborators." Head to Nowness to read the rest of the interview and check out the film below:
