At Sean Penn's Help Haiti charity gala this weekend, Anderson Cooper nabbed a Jeff Koons original for $1.4 million, but he didn't get to walk home with his purchase. That's because Koons has yet to create the work.

Cooper isn't banking on a shiny balloon animal, Koons' specialty. According to People, Koons plans to create Cooper's piece out of Penn's old firearms.

During the auction, which raised $6 million for charity, Anderson admitted to the crowd, "I texted my boyfriend and told him I spent $1.4 million on a piece of art. He said, 'Are you fucking kidding!?"

Considering that Koons sold a record-breaking work for $58.4 million at a Christie's auction in November, Cooper may have wrapped up the auction with a bargain.

Besides the CNN anchor's purchase, Coldplay frontman Chris Martinwalked away with an original Banksy for $650,000.
