In front of Chicago's United Center stands a 2,000-pound bronze sculpture of Michael Jordan leaping over the competition, which seems to crumble beneath the basketball legend's momentum. While you can't walk home with this enormous, dynamic construction, for $100,000, you can buy the original blueprints.
The structural blueprint for The Spirit, the sculpture's proper name, is being sold on eBay for the hefty sum. The seller claims that the document is the real deal: "This is an original structural print of the Michael Jordan statue in front of the United Center, was glued to a piece of cardboard (you can see the swirls from the glue), comes cheap frame that will need to be replaced."
The public work, which was unveiled in 1994, was created by sculptors Omri Amrany and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany, who worked non-stop for four months in a secret Chicago studio. The blueprint is stamped by the engineering firm Sargent & Lundy, who were responsible for laying the foundation for the sculpture's pedestal, so we're inclined to believe it's legit. Even so, is this piece of sports memorabilia really worth the price?
