HVW8 Gallery partnered with Myspace and Sinecure Books to present photos from Peter Beste's "Houston Rap" book in a gallery setting. Beste spent nine years photographing neighborhoods in Houston, including the stomping grounds of Hip-Hop legends Bun B, Z-Ro, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Willie D, Lil' Troy, Pimp C, and DJ Screw. Beste also photographed the landmarks, people, and businesses that have made Houston a breeding ground for Hip-Hop artists and a very important city to the culture. "We take you from the projects to the studio to the strip club and back" he says, "all along with an on-going oral history narrative from the people of the culture."

Bun B said that Beste's book "defines Houston Hip Hop." A selection of the photos went on display at HVW8 Gallery on January 24 and will remain on view through February 16.
