From Zorro to Pablo: Antonio Banderas Lands Picasso Role in Upcoming Biopic With Gwyneth Paltrow as His Muse

If you could choose any actor to be Picasso, would Banderas be your top choice?

Luckily April Fool's Day has passed, otherwise we wouldn't believe this story at all. According to Fox News Latino, Antonio Banderas has been chosen for the role of Pablo Picasso in an upcoming biopic by Spanish director Carlos Saura, and the freshly uncoupledGwyneth Paltrow is in talks to play his muse, French artist Dora Maar.

The film will be titled 33 dias and will tell the story of Picasso's 1937 painting Guernica. More shocking than the choice of Banderas as Picasso is the fact that this isn't the first time he has been considered. "I turned down the chance at one point of playing Mr. Pablo, but the time has come in my life where I understand him better, and I am nearly at the age he was when those events happened, in 1937, when he was 55 or 56, and I'm getting close," he told the news outlet. We don't doubt his acting abilities (we saw Spy Kids), but Banderas as one of the most famous painters of all time is not something we expected, and the same goes for Paltrow, though she is apparently "in love with Spain and speaks Spanish and French perfectly," which helps.

The company that agreed to finance the film has filed for bankruptcy protection, so it may be a while before we get to see this, but we will keep an eye out for it in the future.
