Author and watchdog Vince Lewishas been scouring the globe via Google Maps in search of government secrets. Recently, he stumbled upon something the auto industry has been trying to keep hush-hush. In a series of photos, Lewis revealed that the US and the UK are home to several hundred massive repositories for unsold cars.

Why, Lewis questioned, would major auto brands lead people to believe that car sales are normal while thousands of brand new vehicles are parked in deserted areas like unused airbases, “slowly deteriorating without being maintained”?

Instead of selling the unsold cars at a discounted rate just to move them out the door, motor companies are hoarding them, and purchasing land as more and more “car parks” are needed. This behavior not only worsens the economic depression we’ve been fighting since the Bush Administration, but also has detrimental effects on the environment.
