If you're marking your calendar with art events for next season (which you should be), you may want to make note of an exhibition of Matisse cut-outs that is heading to MoMA in October.

Titled "Henri Matisse: The Cut Outs," the show had a successful premiere in London at Tate Modern this past Spring and is expected to also be a hit in New York. The New York Times reports that the MoMA edition of the show will differ slightly from the current version. "In addition to about 100 cut-outs, created between 1937 and 1954, MoMA will feature Matisse’s largest and most ambitious cut-out, The Swimming Pool, a room-size work in nine panels made in 1952."

According to the Times, MoMA acquired the piece from Matisse's family 1975 and it has not been shown in nearly 20 years, partially because of its size, but also because of the "delicate nature of the composition." Its inclusion in the show is kind of a big deal, so you should definitely make an effort to visit the museum between October 12 and February 7.
