Filmmaker Brett Novak has created a new documentary on Shepard Fairey where the street art king looks back on his path to fame. Called Obey This Film, the short video beings with Fairey's infamous Andre the Giant stickers, from his days as a student at RISD, and traces his explosion as an art world force to be reckoned with.

"Placing stuff in unusual spaces is memorable and has a power," Fairey says early in the documentary. Harnessing this power is what he sought out to do throughout his career.

Novak created the film for the Hasley Institute of Contemporary Art in Charleston, an organization that recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a show called "The Insistent Image: Recurrent Motifs in the Art of Shepard Fairey and Jasper Johns."
