This 3D Virtual Art Gallery Lets You Touch Works by Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons

This first-person virtual art gallery allows you to get closer to the art than you ever could in real-life.

Who said art galleries had to be brick-and-mortar spaces where people quietly move around a room in a circular pattern while looking at paintings and sculptures? Virtual galleries have been a "thing" for quite some time now, but a lot of them are more like Tumblr blogs. What if you could move around a space and engage with art from the comfort of your couch? Brace yourselves, because the future is now.

Gallery404 is the brainchild of artists Manuel Palou and Moises Sanabria of Art404 (Art Not Found). The "open source browser-based 3D art gallery platform" is like playing the original Doom, but without the guns and all the shit trying to kill you. The gallery is seen in first-person, and you, the visitor, have to use your keyboard and mouse to move around the space. The current "exhibition" features "classic" works by Andy Warhol, Barbara Kruger, Jeff Koons, Constantin Brancusi, and Louise Bourgeois, but we suspect that the art will change over time, just like in a normal gallery. If you're really inspired by the project, the artists have included a basic template on GitHub, so that you can create your own and fill it with whatever you want.
