The police shooting of Michael Brown didn't create the debate about police brutality, but it definitely brought the issue to the forefront for a lot of people in Ferguson, Mo. and around the country. Brown's death has been compared to the deaths of other unarmed civilians in the United States at the hands of law enforcement over the years, and the list has only added to the rage and sadness that many are feeling.

Journalist and filmmaker Shirin-Banou Barghi visualized the problem in a different but still very real way. She designed a series of images that feature the last words of people killed by the police, including Michael Brown, John Crawford, Trayvon Martin, Sean Bell, and Eric Garner. The images also feature the names of the deceased, the day they were killed, and an image that relates to their individual tragedies.

Details about the incidents are shared as photo captions on Barghi's Facebook page, along with links to news outlets that covered the stories. The series is both sad and infuriating, but also very powerful. Follow Barghi on Twitter and keep the discussion going by using the #lastwords hashtag.
