Rewind back to the first week of September, specifically to New York Fashion Week. Of the many brands that presented at the weeklong event was designer Telfar Clemens, one of the greatest black fashion designers, for his eponymous brand, Telfar. In case you missed it, here's a recap of the show.
According to Clemens, the collection—a mix of muted pastels, experimental silhouettes, and deconstructed pieces—was inspired by "America with a twist on global fashion," with a focus on what summer is to him. He also said that he was inspired by pop culture, which is fitting considering the runway show was scored by a piano that did renditions of Top 40 pop music, including Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness," Rihanna's "Diamonds," Katy Perry's "Dark Horse," and more.
