On Saturday night, b-boy Menno took home the win for Red Bull BC One's national finals 2014, held at La Grande halle de la Villette in Paris. While it wasn't a shoe-in for any b-boy to win, after seeing Menno take on his first few one-on-one battles, it was clear he'd be in the final round. Going against b-boy Taisuke from Japan, who has been a BC One finalist multiple times before, Menno won 3-0, attributing his first World Championship title to his ability of "travel[ing] the floor with unpredictable movements.” He adds, “I try to misguide people. I try to trick people with creativity. And I try to fish from different waters than other b-boys.”

Judge Ken Swift (USA), who was on a panel with The End (South Korea), Yaman (France), Yan (Russia), and Luigi (USA), said, “Menno is an evolved b-boy. He’s done his homework and his research. He knows this art form. He’s been paying his dues for a while, and I think he deserves this win.” Previously, North American finals judge b-boy Ronnie told us, "Every year, everyone always expects three countries to make it far—the USA, France, or Korea. But because this year’s line-up is so insanely good and diverse, it could go any way." And it certainly did, with Menno repping the Netherlands.
