This Insane Spiral Staircase Was Inspired by Helicopters

This is one of the coolest spiral staircases we've ever seen.

We've seen designers get pretty creative when it comes to drawing inspiration for their creations—like a staircase inspired by a whale's vertebra and a table that looks like an iPhone. Belgian design company Jo-a also pulled from an unlikely source when they created this wooden spiral staircase, called OlmO, for an apartment renovation in Brussels. Inspired by the helix of a helicopter, the OlmO is notable for its lack of a central shaft. The overall effect creates more space and light, giving the staircase a weightless quality and allowing an unobscured view of the spiral from all angles.

Basically, we really wish we had one of these for ourselves. With its functionality and an aesthetically pleasing design, the OlmO is the kind of staircase that could take your apartment to the next level, literally.
