During Art Basel Miami Beach this year, André 3000 appeared at the Design Miami/ collector's breakfast to talk about his recent collaborations. Although he's best known for his music, André 3000 used this year's Outkast Festival Tour to explore the field of design through a series of black jumpsuits, each emblazoned with phrases in white Helvetica text. His jumpsuits were on display during his collaborative exhibition at Mana Miami, titled "i feel ya: SCAD + André 3000 Benjamin," presented by the SCAD Museum of Art.

We stopped by the exhibition last week to see the jumpsuits and also interviewed the designer, Linda Stokes, about working with André. The Outkast member also spoke to a crowd during Art Basel in a conversation hosted by Paula Wallace. In the video above, he explains how the suits evolved from a racecar driver costume into methods of updating Outkast's message for an audience in 2014.

"I was presenting old music because Outkast has been around for 20 years believe it or not. We had to do these songs that I wrote when I was 17, 18. I'm 39 now and felt kind of strange about going back out and presenting these old ideas," André admits to Wallace in the video above. "So I was like, 'What I can I say new right now to the young kids that are into Outkast now?'" He continues, "With these suits, I had an opportunity to say things every night."
