John Galliano made his debut as creative director of Maison Martin Margiela, and presented its Spring 2015 Couture line in London yesterday. This marks a new era for Margiela, which has long built a celebrated fashion house around the secrecy and group-think of its designers.

But Galliano's debut and role in Margiela aren't the only new changes that have been made. The New York Times is reporting that the label has dropped the "Martin" from its name to, as a company spokesman said, "reflect the evolution of the house." Maison Martin Margiela has been the name of the fashion house since it was founded by Martin Margiela himself in 1988, and who left the label around 2002.

The modification in Margiela's name is reminiscent of Yves Saint Laurent's, when the French fashion house altered its title to Saint Laurent in June 2012, following the appointment of current creative director Hedi Slimane.
