A new art exhibit from photographer Jessica Fulford-Dobson entitled "Skate Girls of Kabul" puts the spotlight on some inspiring Afghan girls and their decks. Fulford worked with the organization Skateistan, an after-school program with a focus on teaching young girls to skate, and its location in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul.

Fulford shot the little girls on-site at the skate parks in Kabul. "The young skate girls [were] so fun to be around and so totally unspoilt," Fulford said in a statement. "I feel lucky to have met them. I hope that this collection captures something of their spirit: their joy in life, their individuality and their community.”

The young girls involved in Skateistan do more than just learn how to skate. The program hopes to help build a sense of community and get girls from impoverished or displaced families back into school. The girl in the portrait above has advanced in her studies dramatically since joining, even enrolling in the national school system, and is one of the program's great success stories.

The exhibit will run at London's Saatchi Gallery from April 15 to April 28.
