Since getting his start in the 1980s, New York artist Todd James has built a pretty impressive career. His resume includes everything from creating logos for the Beastie Boys and The Source, to designing the bears for Miley Cyrus’ 2013 VMA performance. His distinct cartoon-style paintings—which typically use bold colors, abstract shapes, and a good amount of irony—have been showcased in exhibitions around the world; however, beginning today, visitors of Tribeca’s Washington Market Park will get to enjoy his work first-hand.

As a part of the the Court Mural program, James was commissioned to create public art on the 90-foot wall of the Chambers Street basketball court. The mural is a collage of colorful abstract faces, which were inspired by classic graffiti b-boy characters created by writers during the 1970s.

Check out the mural in the images below. The piece will be on display until Fall 2015.
