Two more Banksy murals are headed to auction and their combined sales are estimated to reach over $1 million, Reuters reports.
One mural featuring a boy with a paintbrush standing next to the words, "I remember when all this was trees," was painted during Banksy's time in Detroit. The other, entitled Donkey Documents, comes from the street artist's visit to Isreal in 2007. The mural is of a donkey having his papers checked by a soldier and was done on a wall that separates the West Bank from Israel. The Detroit mural is seven by seven feet, while Donkey Documents stands at seven feet by 10 feet.
I Remember When All This Was Trees and Donkey Documents are expected to fetch $400,000 and $600,000, respectively, when they go under the hammer at Los Angeles' Julien's Auctions on Sept. 30. "These are considered conservative estimates," Julien's executive Michael Doyle told Reuters. "These pieces could fetch more." Proceeds from the auction will benefit non-profits that support local art initiatives. The two works will be on display in a yet-to-be-announced location in London before they are sold, according to BBC.
Although the process of removing Banksy murals from their original locations is difficult and controversial that has hardly hurt their values before. Previous Banksy works that have gone up for auction have garnered extremely high bids, including Slave Labour ($1.1 million), Silent Majority ($549k), and Bomb Damage ($175k).
