Louis Vuitton is discontinuing its Takashi Murakami collection, which we called the best artist and fashion collaboration, after 12 years, WWD reports.
The bags, belts, wallets, and bracelets printed with the design will be gone from stores very soon. All items are "leaving stores at the end of July, forever," a store associate told WWD.
The Tokyo-based artist's Multicolore monogram design was unveiled during Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2003 fashion show and became an instant hit. The bag was worn by icons of the time, like Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, as well as Naomi Campbell, and the design was even featured on the exterior of its New York City flagship store.
The design was unveiled during Marc Jacob's tenure as creative director, but new man at the helm Nicolas Ghesquière is ready to leave the past behind. Louis Vuitton did not give a comment to WWD, besides the fact it prefers to "look forward."
The Multicolor monogram was the most commercially successful of Murakami's collaborations with LV, which also included the extremely hyped camouflage collection.
