Let’s give it up to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers for another big win.
Last week, we reported on a story in which CBP agents seized more than a half a million dollars worth of fake designer jewelry. And today, we just received word they busted another counterfeit scheme at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport complex.
According to WWD, the seizure actually took place last month, but wasn’t reported by the CBP until today. On June 18, agents discovered a total of 3,960 fake Hermes belts from China, which had an estimated retail value of $3.23 million.
"Counterfeit products are increasingly of a higher quality, making consumers easily deceived by fakes that look and feel real," CBP port director Carlos Martel said in a press release. "The flood of counterfeit products not only creates an enormous drain on the U.S. economy, but funds transnational criminal enterprises."
That’s a shit ton of money down the drain. Will these counterfeiters ever learn their lesson?
