People are pissed off at Target. Again.

The retail giant has recently received backlash for a women’s tee that reads “Trophy” across the chest. According to a statement sent to Yahoo News, the $12.99 item is a part of Target’s brides-to-be collection; however, it has caused outrage across social media platforms as many people have deemed it “sexist.” And we definitely understand their outrage.

The slogan clearly perpetuates stereotypes as well as the misogynistic idea of women being mere objects for men to win/own. However, Target insists the design is all in good fun.

“It is never our intention to offend anyone, and we always appreciate receiving feedback from our guests,” a spokesperson wrote to Yahoo. “The [‘Trophy’ shirt] is part of a collection of engagement and wedding shirts that are available in our women’s and plus size departments. The collection also included shirts that say ‘Team Bride,’ ‘Mrs.,’ and ‘Bride.’ These shirts are intended as a fun wink and we have received an overwhelmingly positive response from our guests.”

Maybe some folks actually like the shirt, but it seems a good number of people on the Internet don't find it funny.

In addition to a slew of tweets bashing the retailer, a pissed off individual has started a Change.org petition demanding Target to take the shirt off its racks.

“The word "Trophy" is described in the English language as "any THING taken in war, hunting, competition, etc., especially when preserved as a memento; spoil, prize, or award- anything serving as a token or evidence of victory, valor, skill, etc,” the petition read. “What's worse is that the use of the word when referring to women encourages a rape culture where women are merely objects, not humans, to be used for men's pleasure.”

You can check out some of the heated Twitter responses below. Let’s hope Target takes these concerns into consideration and removes the offensive tee from its stores … or at least issues a decent apology.
