Austin-based artist Sophie Roach creates her cosmic, dizzyingly intricate drawings with modest materials. Yielding a pen and marker, she taps into her intuitive reserve of pattern and line. She’s not one to title her work, but rather prefers to keep the associations of the drawings untethered and floating in the swirling realm of color.
“Forcing myself into oblivion is part of what keeps my work sincere,” she says.
Roach didn’t discover her passion for drawing until she was 21, but ever since she’s been on the hunt to fill pages and devour surfaces with her designs. We can expect a lot from the rising artist, and a quick glimpse at her Instagram reveals a plethora of projects she’s dabbling in.
