Doris Payne clearly DGAF. In July, the 85-year-old was taken into custody after she swiped a $33,000 ring and now she has just been arrested again for stealing a pair of $690 earrings.
Payne was caught on camera leaving with the Dior goods from Saks Fifth Avenue in Atlanta. She was later found in the mall with the earrings still in her pocket.
"I think these officers just thought it was a run of the mill shoplifting,” Atlanta Police Sgt. Warren Pickard told WSB. “They took the woman into custody and, a short time thereafter, they got notice that another jurisdiction had a warrant for her and she was an international thief.”
Payne is known as one of the most legendary jewel thieves in the world and is said to have had a $2 million career. She was the focus of a documentary in 2012, where she says “I don’t have any regrets about stealing jewelry. There was never a day when I went to steal that I did not get what I went to do.”
She is currently still in jail and is facing extradition to North Carolina, where she stole the diamond ring.
