Baggy pants have been increasingly enforced as taboo as of late, but they’ve yet to cost anyone jail time—until now.
In Bolivar, Tenn., two high school seniors were sentenced to 48 hours in jail this week for wearing sagging pants in the school building. The sentence stemmed from an incident in early November, wherein the students were charged with indecent exposure. Court documents showed that the high school resource officer had reprimanded the students several times for violating dress code, which prohibits “low slung, baggy seat, baggy legged or bell bottom pants.”
When questioned, neither law enforcement nor school officials clarified how a school dress code violation translated into a jail sentence.
In addition to jail time, the students will also face court cost and will be charged a fine.
